Aman-i-Khás. Rajasthan, India

Perched on the edge of Rajasthan’s Ranthambore National Park, is the beautifully rugged Aman-i-Khás tented camp. Only open from October to May of each year, this camp of 10 canopied tents is the ultimate experience in luxury camping. Especially for those looking for a similar experience to a tented camp in Africa, this is the perfect safari trip for a family or you and a loved one because it’s not so isolated that you feel disconnected from the world.

Each of the 10 luxury tents comes with air conditioning (what the what?!), soaring canopies, standard bathroom amenities (again, flushing toilets, what the what?!), and beautiful draped silk curtains that separate the living rooms from the bedrooms.

The Park is composed of deciduous forests, grasslands, and waterholes, which make for the perfect big game hunting grounds. At Aman-i-Khás you will witness indigenous game including tigers, leopards, hyenas, sloth bears, crocodiles and chital deer. The twice-daily safari excursions will show you into a world rarely seen by outsiders. The main focal point of the luxury camp is the large outdoor fireplace, which is the perfect place for an apres-safari drink or to watch the sun go down along the hills.

Aman-i-Khás offers 3 exclusive tours you won’t find anywhere else in the world. Incredible Wild Escape is a spectacular four-night escape in search of India’s elusive tigers and other wildlife. Aman India Journey is a six-night itinerary to experience the vibrant culture of India. Last but not least, Aman’s Camp and Oasis Journey is two 3-night stays at Aman-i-Khas and Amanbagh to help you truly experience Rajasthan.

If you’re looking for a safari experience with a little more amenity and less seclusion, this is the luxury tented camp for you. Just picture yourself listening to the sounds of the wilderness settling down for the night, as you discuss the day’s sightings.

Amankila. Manggis, Bali

When I first pictured Bali I pictured lush rainforest, white sandy beaches, birds of paradise flying everywhere, and monkeys playing in the trees. Although my imagination got the best of me a little bit with this idea, for the most part it was true. The Amankila truly embodied most of what I had dreamed Bali would be, with a few differences. Located along the Manggis coastline, just an hour and a half from the airport, I loved how the hotel was located away from the hustle and bustle of the city area. Bali has gotten to be quite a busy place, so it was nice to see what Bali was like before it became so developed. Unlike most Aman hotels, this Aman has white-washed walls and is very open-aired, a little more Bali than Aman.

Located on the cliffs of Amuk Bay, this hotel has some of the best views I’ve seen yet. Located among vast rice paddies, high volcanoes, and the ocean, this is the near-perfect location I’ve been searching for. There are 34 stand-alone villas nestled among the rainforest with alang alang thatched roofs fashioned after traditional Balinese beach homes. There are 6 different types of suites: Garden Suite, Ocean Suite, Pool Suite, Kilasari Suite, Indrakila Suite, and the Amankila Suite. Opt for the amazing Kilasari Suite, while all the rooms are pretty identical, this suite comes with Ocean Views and a 12m pool.

Above the romantic three-tiered pool over-looking spectacular views of the coastline is The Terrace restaurant, which serves Asian and Western cuisine and is open for lunch. The other dining option, The Restaurant, is available for evening dining with cocktails or aperitifs enjoyed in the open-air bar. The Restaurant also offers cooking lessons, in which a couple will travel to the fish market in the early morning and then travel back to the hotel where they will learn how to cook authentic Indonesian food for their lunch.

One of my favorite things about the Amankila is there beach club. It is a very rare find in Bali, especially to have such a beautiful black-sand beach that is actually swimmable. A path leads to the resort’s private beach which offers eight bales, windsurfers, kayaks, boogie boards, Hobie Cats and two outriggers. The beach club also offers a private restaurant, 41 meter lap pool, and butler service. The Amankila also offers numerous romantic activities for couples and family-friendly activities for those traveling with young kids. My favorite activity would be the privately chartered yacht for a cruise around the coast with snorkeling and diving activities, followed by a picnic on a private beach, and a sunset cruise with cocktails. The Amankila truly embodies what I feel Bali should offer for an island resort and is the perfect destination whether you are 30 on your honeymoon or 50 and traveling with your family.

Amankora. Bhutan

There is not place on earth quite like Amankora. Located in Bhutan’s central and western valleys, it consists of five unique lodges linked throughout the Kingdom of Bhutan’s countryside by paths that weave through the natural surroundings.  Made up of mountains that dip into valleys and rivers, Bhutan is a destination unlike anywhere you have ever been, and one you will never want to leave.

The resort is made up of Amankora Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey and Bumthang – each of which are unique in their own way, but also come together to create the spiritual and welcoming whole that is Amankora.  You can choose to stay at just one, or embark on a tailor-made, 11-night journey throughout Bhutan to see each of the amazing locations of The Amankora Resort. This journey will include complimentary road permits, private transports with a driver and a guide, and a 60-minute massage to be enjoyed at any one of the five lodge-spas. Additionally, decide whether or not to add an all-inclusive package to your stay.

Amankora Paro is located in Balakha Village, a 30 minute trip from Paro International Airport and has 24 suites.  The rooms carry a rustic feel but with contemporary design and have rammed earth walls, wood paneled interiors and slightly sloped roofs.  Suites feature a combined lounge and bedroom with a cozy window seat and a bakhari – a traditional wood burning stove.  The bathrooms are spacious and have a bathtub you will want to sink right in to.  Centered around a beautiful courtyard are the Living Room and Dining Room.  The Living Room has floor-to-ceiling glass windows that look out to a blue pine forest, the 17th-century Drukyel Dzong, and Mount Jhomolhari – this is the perfect place for a cocktail.  The Dining Room, located below the Living Room, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and specializes in Indian, Western and Bhutanese dishes.  This property is also home to the two story luxury Spa Bhutan.  You will arrive in the upper level, which has the lobby, changing areas, sauna, steam room and glass-walled yoga studio. Downstairs has a double treatment room and four single treatment rooms, each of which have a shower and outdoor bath.

Amankora Thimphu has the same amenities, and the window seat looks across a beautiful courtyard, or at a stream that runs through a nearby pine forest.  Close to Bhutan’s capital, sights and shopping, Amankora Thimphu remains a tranquil retreat in the Kingdom.  The Living and Dining Rooms are combined, and the Spa has three treatment rooms, a steam room and a changing area.

Accessed by crossing a suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu (Mother River), Amankora Punakha’s eight suites also feature the same in-room design, but the three buildings that hold the suites are situated in an orange orchard with views of rice paddies and Punakha Valley.  The property was designed around a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse.  Above the Dining Room are relaxation areas and a traditional Bhutanese altar room for prayer and meditation.  This is the perfect place to stay in the summer – the Courtyard is perfect for outdoor dining. It also has a two-story spa with a yoga/meditation room, views of the surrounding rice fields, two private treatment rooms, a steam room and changing areas.

Amankora Gangtey mimics Amankora Thimphu, and looks across the valley.  It is located in the picture-perfect yet relatively unheard of Phobjikha Valley and has gorgeous views of the sweeping valley and the 16th-century Gangtey Goemba Monastery.  The cozy, combined Living and Dining Room has floor-to-ceiling walls that give you amazing views of the valley and surrounding mountains.  The Spa has two treatment rooms and changing areas.

Amankora Bumthang has 16 suites and is accessed through a stone hallway.  The suites are in four separate buildings, with two suites on the ground floor and two above.  The rooms come with the same luxuries as the other four settings, however the daybeds overlook the courtyard and the nearby Wangdichholing Palace and Monastery.   It is located in the town of Jakar in the Choerkhor Valley, which is commonly known as Bumthang.  The lodge is surrounded by an apple orchard, and has pear trees all around the property as well.  The Living Room and Library open after a dzong-inspired hallway and both have lounge chairs, daybeds and a buhkari, like the ones found in each suite.  The Dining Room has an unbelievable ceiling, as well as outdoor dining areas under the shade of fruit trees.  There is also a spa with three treatment rooms and a steam room.
So, if these five lodges’ uniquely tranquil yet stunningly perfect settings don’t scream “Next Stop: Bhutan!”, scroll through the gallery one more time and think again.  Though the options may seem endless, and the task of choosing one daunting, you cannot go wrong with a suite in any of these five spiritual and serene spots.

Amangani Hotel. Jackson Hole, Wyoming. USA

Located 10 minutes outside of Jackson Hole, guests have the perfect balance of town life and mountain life. But once you arrive one the Amangani property, you will not want to leave. The hotel was designed to be a perfect illustration of Wyoming culture: Redwood walls line the spacious rooms that are decorated with woven, cowhide chairs and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Usually in a place like Jackson Hole, outdoor activities take precedent over housing, but that is not the case at Amangani. Enjoy the luxurious suites that are outfitted with a fireplace, daybed and sliding glass doors overlooking the incredible Teton Mountains.

Regardless of what season you choose to visit, my recommendation is to jet over this Thanksgiving. In the spring and summer, you can enjoy the gorgeous paths for mountain hikes and bike ride, however, Winter in Jackson Hole is one of a kind. Skiing the heart-stopping black runs, dog sledding and sleigh rides were my absolute favorites.

After your stay at Amangani, you will understand why it is repeatedly named as one of the country’s best resorts.
