The St. Regis. Osaka, Japan

Japan’s second-largest city, Osaka, is known for it’s rich cultural history and cuisine. It is an up-and-coming cosmopolitan city that offers exclusive fashion boutiques, galleries, and sophisticated restaurants and cafés. Located on the tree-lined Midosuji Avenue, Osaka’s Champs-Elysées, the St. Regis Osaka is by far the most outstanding hotel in Osaka. Just minuted from the hotel are some of the best attractions such as the ancient Shitennoji Temple, the Municipal Museum of Fine Art, and the city’s most exclusive shopping boulevard.

Although Japanese decor and architecture can sometimes be hard-lined and cold, The St. regis exemplifies warm hospitality without sacrificing traditional Japanese culture and service. Upon arrival, the St. Regis Butler serves you warm green tea and is at your service during your entire stay. From a perfectly pressed suit to a favorite book at hand, no request is too small or unattainable for your Butler.

Since it is a cosmopolitan hotel, you will not find any traditional Japanese bedrooms, each of the Guest Rooms come with two queen, or one king bed, along with amazingly soft sheets and pillows. The design is Japanese-infused, with hints of color int heir overall neutral palette. On the 27th floor of the hotel is the Matsu Suite, which comes with a fireplace, dining room, rainforest shower/jacuzzi tub, and some of the best views in the hotel. If you can’t seem to afford the Presidential Suite (because who can?), this is the next best room!

During your stay, a must-try is the IRIDIUM featuring SOTHYS, which offers a sublime retreat where guests may experience quintessential body treatments. The treatment specialists are trained at the Sothys Institut de Beauté in Paris and the products are all SOTHYS, so you know your experience will be rich and luxurious.

The hotel offers two dining options, Rue d’Or and La Veduta, which are French and Italian, respectively. There is a huge French influence in Osaka which is easily found in it’s cuisine and aesthetic. One cool fact about the St. Regis hotel: the first Bloody Mary was created in 1934 at the New York St. Regis, and each hotel has it’s own signature Bloody Mary. Osaka’s signature drink is called the Shogun Mary and I kid you not, top 5 Bloody Mary’s I’ve ever had, but be warned it’s very strong!

The hotel also offers a wonderful business center and gym, perfect for any traveler on business. This home away from home is sure to help you transition to culture-shock, although you won’t feel it for very long after you realize how amazing Osaka is.

Ritz-Carlton. Kyoto, Japan.

Kyoto is known as the temple capital of Japan, and the brand-new Ritz-Carlton hotel will be your own personal zen sanctuary.  It opened in February 2014 and is Japan’s first urbanized luxury resort in Japan. The resort sits just above the banks of the Kamogawa River and looks out on the Higashiyama Mountains, delivering views you will never forget.

With 134 guest rooms and nine luxury suites, you cannot go wrong in your room choice. Each room features either a city view, a view of the on-site Japanese Garden, or a Kamogawa River View.  All rooms also feature modern designs mixed with traditional Japanese touches, which will give you a sense of the amazing culture you will find yourself emerged in.

Choose from 49 Deluxe, spacious guest rooms with a window seat to look out at the city, or one of 13 Deluxe Garden rooms, or one of 55 Luxury guest rooms with both river and mountain views. All rooms have the best in luxury amenities, including 600-thread count sheets, premium shower supplies by Asprey, handmade bath soaps and salts by Kyoto Shabon-ya, and Yukata Imabari bathrobes and slippers. If a luxury suite is more your speed, pick from one of nine amazing and unique suites. The Suite TSUKIMI or The Ritz-Carlton Suite are equally fabulous and the hottest rooms in the resort.  Suite TSUKIMI is a 1,505 square foot room and has a private Moon-Viewing Deck with a panoramic view of the city, the river, and the stunning surrounding mountains.  The Ritz-Carlton Suite is 2,279 square feet and has a bathroom that is absolutely to die for – a large marble bathtub to soak in and a separate rainforest shower, too.  The huge living room with sprawling views is perfect to sit and have a drink (or two) in, and the suite also features a private dining room for eight.

The Spa is a healing and relaxation sanctuary with a waterfall that epitomizes the perfect spa feel. With seven treatment rooms and one spa suite, you can choose from the most luxurious treatments with spa products from ESPA, which are the best in quality that is offered.  After your treatment, take a dip in the 20-meter swimming pool, a steam, or sweat it out in the dry sauna. There is also a fitness center, a relaxation room, and a hot bath in the locker room.

The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto has four on-site dining options, three of which offer traditional Japanese cuisine, and the fourth serves delicious Italian fare. La Locanda is the Italian spot, and it is set in a century-old dining room.  At Mizuki, you can experience four separate aspects of true gastronomic expertise with Kaiseki Mizuki, Sushi Mizuki, Tempura Mizuki, and Teppanyaki. Each specializes in a unique aspect of true Japanese cuisine, and all are equally delicious. Before or after your meal, or both, head to The Bar, which has a 360° cellar with over 400 fabulous wines. Finally, stop into the lobby for breakfast or traditional afternoon tea, and, most scrumptious of all, the Pierre Hermé Boutique.

The Resort has partnered with Pierre Hermé Paris, the original Paris Patisserie, and we can vouch for the unbelievable deliciousness of each of their pasteries. If you are up for a taste sensation, treat yourself to the Infiniment Caramel Macaron…if they are good enough for Kim and Kanye, trust that they are absolutely divine.

The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto is an absolute gem. We at Posh Voyage are thrilled to have this luxury resort in the heart of Japan.

Park Hyatt. Tokyo, Japan.

Occupying the top 14 floors of Shinjuku Park Tower, the Park Hyatt Tokyo is one of the most grand and soaring skyscrapers in Tokyo reaching over 47 floors. With only 177 rooms, the hotel is definitely intimate by Japanese standards. You arrive at the hotel with an immediate sense of tranquility and well-being, which is exactly what the hotel is designed for. Designed by celebrated Japanese architect, Dr. Kenzo Tange, and American interior designer John Morford, the 47th floor is the crown jewel of the hotel. The 47th floor is a glass pyramid, allowing natural light to stream through, and is home to a gym, aerobics, studio, and huge swimming pool. It is also one of the only vantage points in Tokyo in which you can see the three main wonders: Tokyo city, Mt. Fuji, and Kanto Plain.

Located on the 45th floor is the Club on the Park, their luxurious and pampering spa. The spa includes whirlpools, wet and dry saunas, cold plunge pools, and the treatments rooms. The aestheticians provide specialize treatments based upon what your body needs. However, my favorite treatment is definitely the ‘Tokyo Journey’, in which they combine Japanese and Western techniques into a facial and massage. Talk about best of both worlds! They also have an exclusive line of treatments for mean from Collin’s line of products, based in France.

The luxury rooms and suites at the Park Hyatt incorporate a contemporary private residence concept coupled by sleek amenities and spectacular views of Tokyo at night-time. The spacious rooms average over 50 sqm and feature stylishly appointed interiors, with earthy tones of deep green and brown. The bathrooms are fitted with a deep soaking tub and separate shower, and each of the rooms display original hand-crafted artwork by a local Japanese artists. If you can, opt for the Park Suite, this suite has some of the best views of Mt. Fuji and has rare Hokkaido water elm panelling.

My favorite aspect of this hotel is it’s array of dining options. One of the reasons I love Japan so much is it’s food (this is no surprise to anyone who follows our Instagram) and the Park Hyatt spares no expense on it’s restaurants. There are three restaurants, 2 deli’s, and three bars to chose from when it comes to eating and drinking. Kozue is the contemporary Japanese style restaurant, insider tip: order the “Shun” tasting course. If you’re looking for the perfect place for some aprés-dinner drinks, The New York Bar is one of the hottest tickets in town, not to mention their Grill menu is fantastic. At sunset you must go to The Peak Bar for a glass of champagne to watch the sun go down under a sea of lanterns in their bamboo garden.

Park Hyatt was designed and built to be a luxurious, modern, yet subtly homey place to make this your go-to hotel in Tokyo. If it works for even the pickiest of travelers, then be rest assured you will not be disappointed at this landmark hotel.

Amankora. Bhutan

There is not place on earth quite like Amankora. Located in Bhutan’s central and western valleys, it consists of five unique lodges linked throughout the Kingdom of Bhutan’s countryside by paths that weave through the natural surroundings.  Made up of mountains that dip into valleys and rivers, Bhutan is a destination unlike anywhere you have ever been, and one you will never want to leave.

The resort is made up of Amankora Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey and Bumthang – each of which are unique in their own way, but also come together to create the spiritual and welcoming whole that is Amankora.  You can choose to stay at just one, or embark on a tailor-made, 11-night journey throughout Bhutan to see each of the amazing locations of The Amankora Resort. This journey will include complimentary road permits, private transports with a driver and a guide, and a 60-minute massage to be enjoyed at any one of the five lodge-spas. Additionally, decide whether or not to add an all-inclusive package to your stay.

Amankora Paro is located in Balakha Village, a 30 minute trip from Paro International Airport and has 24 suites.  The rooms carry a rustic feel but with contemporary design and have rammed earth walls, wood paneled interiors and slightly sloped roofs.  Suites feature a combined lounge and bedroom with a cozy window seat and a bakhari – a traditional wood burning stove.  The bathrooms are spacious and have a bathtub you will want to sink right in to.  Centered around a beautiful courtyard are the Living Room and Dining Room.  The Living Room has floor-to-ceiling glass windows that look out to a blue pine forest, the 17th-century Drukyel Dzong, and Mount Jhomolhari – this is the perfect place for a cocktail.  The Dining Room, located below the Living Room, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and specializes in Indian, Western and Bhutanese dishes.  This property is also home to the two story luxury Spa Bhutan.  You will arrive in the upper level, which has the lobby, changing areas, sauna, steam room and glass-walled yoga studio. Downstairs has a double treatment room and four single treatment rooms, each of which have a shower and outdoor bath.

Amankora Thimphu has the same amenities, and the window seat looks across a beautiful courtyard, or at a stream that runs through a nearby pine forest.  Close to Bhutan’s capital, sights and shopping, Amankora Thimphu remains a tranquil retreat in the Kingdom.  The Living and Dining Rooms are combined, and the Spa has three treatment rooms, a steam room and a changing area.

Accessed by crossing a suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu (Mother River), Amankora Punakha’s eight suites also feature the same in-room design, but the three buildings that hold the suites are situated in an orange orchard with views of rice paddies and Punakha Valley.  The property was designed around a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse.  Above the Dining Room are relaxation areas and a traditional Bhutanese altar room for prayer and meditation.  This is the perfect place to stay in the summer – the Courtyard is perfect for outdoor dining. It also has a two-story spa with a yoga/meditation room, views of the surrounding rice fields, two private treatment rooms, a steam room and changing areas.

Amankora Gangtey mimics Amankora Thimphu, and looks across the valley.  It is located in the picture-perfect yet relatively unheard of Phobjikha Valley and has gorgeous views of the sweeping valley and the 16th-century Gangtey Goemba Monastery.  The cozy, combined Living and Dining Room has floor-to-ceiling walls that give you amazing views of the valley and surrounding mountains.  The Spa has two treatment rooms and changing areas.

Amankora Bumthang has 16 suites and is accessed through a stone hallway.  The suites are in four separate buildings, with two suites on the ground floor and two above.  The rooms come with the same luxuries as the other four settings, however the daybeds overlook the courtyard and the nearby Wangdichholing Palace and Monastery.   It is located in the town of Jakar in the Choerkhor Valley, which is commonly known as Bumthang.  The lodge is surrounded by an apple orchard, and has pear trees all around the property as well.  The Living Room and Library open after a dzong-inspired hallway and both have lounge chairs, daybeds and a buhkari, like the ones found in each suite.  The Dining Room has an unbelievable ceiling, as well as outdoor dining areas under the shade of fruit trees.  There is also a spa with three treatment rooms and a steam room.
So, if these five lodges’ uniquely tranquil yet stunningly perfect settings don’t scream “Next Stop: Bhutan!”, scroll through the gallery one more time and think again.  Though the options may seem endless, and the task of choosing one daunting, you cannot go wrong with a suite in any of these five spiritual and serene spots.

Mukul Beach Golf & Spa. Nicaragua

At the Mukul Beach, Golf & Spa Resort, the Emerald Coast of Nicaragua is your backyard, and what better place is there to call home than the 1,670 acre private beach community that is Mukul? The resort opened in 2013 and each of its 37 accommodations has its own ocean view, pool, and staff.

Don Carlos Pellas, a Nicaraguan entrepreneur, had his vision come to life with Mukul. Mukul means “secret” in Nicaraguan and Pellas’ goal was to make Mukul among one of the most exclusive and luxurious boutique hotels in the world. The property features 12 one and two bedroom beach villas, which boast nine-foot ceilings and glass walls for an amazing view of Playa Manzanillo. Each room is equipped with the aforementioned private pool, a palapa to enjoy both sun and shade, a wrap-around porch, and a garden with a hidden outdoor shower. The one bedroom is ideal for a romantic getaway, but if you want to bring the family along, the two bedroom suites are equipped with a private kitchen, pantry and living room.

Additionally, Mukul has 23 Bohios nestled into the hillside above Playa Manzanillo. Situated like tree houses, the Bohios offer unbelievable views of the surf and sand, as well as privacy as unique as it comes. Made from sustainable, native teak and pine, the Bohios each have a private wooden deck, a plunge pool, and a shower with a view.

The third accommodation option is the Casona Don Pellas – the epitome of Nicaraguan hospitality. Casona Don Pellas is the Pellas’ family beach home and is open to guests when the family is out of town. The villa is 20,000 square foot indoor and outdoor, spacious living area with an 80-foot high palapa ceiling. It has four bedroom suites, a wrap-around terrace and a private swimming pool. The fact that the family opens up their own home to guests of Mukul shows how sincerely they believe in true hospitality.

You’ll spend your nights at Mukul at the gorgeous, open-air Mukul Beach Club – a sanctuary for guests to enjoy snacks, Flor de Caña Rum cocktails, and a split-level bar and lounge. Eat at the palapa-covered Beach Terrace or at Parilla, where they serve dishes inspired by the Americas and local Nicaraguan cuisine; produce grown by local farmers and a daily catch brought in by Nicaraguan fishermen.

Other amenities include an 18-hole golf course designed by Scottish native David McLay Kidd, which finishes only steps from the waves and sand. Spa Mukul is made up of six casitas, each of which are completely private to enhance guest experiences. At the beach, guests will find surfboards, paddleboards, kayaks, snorkeling gear and water toys.

Mukul is the absolute ideal location in Nicaragua, and if we have not yet given you enough reason to check-in to Mukul, let us add that it’s as luxurious as any boutique location we’re used to, but with half the price point.

Al Bustan Palace. Muscat, Oman

Oman was named one of the top travel destinations of 2015 by Travel + Leisure. Experiencing Oman is like transporting yourself into a scene of Arabian Nights, the women are adorned in silk and jewels and the streets smell of frankincense. With two Anantara properties, a Radisson Blu, an Alila resort in the mountains, and a Kempinski on the way, there will an abundance of luxurious accommodations options that are sure to draw you to the beautiful Oman coastline.

The Al Bustan Palace in Muscat, Oman is our pick for this weeks dreamy destination.  It is a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, so the traditional luxury is guaranteed, with the typical extravagant Middle-Eastern twist.  We know Oman seems like a far-fetched destination, but when you take one look at this property, you will be calling us to book you on the next flight out.

With 198 guest rooms and 52 luxury suites, and walls covered in Arab art and decoration, you will find yourself immersed in local culture, while still inside the walls of a hotel you love and trust.  Oman culture has a tradition of offering coffee anytime a guest is welcomed into a home.  Upon arrival at the Al Bustan Palace, the “coffee man” (the cultural host for the hotel) will greet you with their famous gesture.  The Al Bustan Palace is not only a place to sleep and eat in luxurious elegance, but also to immerse yourself into the fascinating Middle Eastern culture.

Elegance spills over the top at the Al Bustan Palace.  Famous for its magical 38-meter-high domed lobby/entry way, the property is home to its very own, and the longest white-sand beach in the country, five outdoor pools, including a 50-meter long infinity pool.  It sits right in front of the Sea of Oman and its backyard are the Al Hajar Mountains.

Spend your days on the sparkling sea sailing, kayaking and snorkeling, or allow yourself some perfect contentment on a chaise lounge all day long.  With three onsite restaurants and two bars, there is no need to worry about going hungry.  Even better, though, is that the restaurants serve up both international and local flavors.

Calming hues of blue and green highlight their guest rooms that reveal Sea of Oman and mountain views from private balconies. For standard rooms they are remarkably spacious and the Al Bustan Lagoon Room beats out the rest. The highlight of accommodation is their suites. If you have enough Omani rials to shell out, I would recommend staying in Presidential Sea View Suite, it’s like stayin in your own Omani palace.

Dine at the Beach Pavilion and you will find yourself directly on the sand in front of one of the most scenic views in all of Oman.  Request a private cabana for a romantic occasion and seaside treat.  Also try China Mood, which serves the most authentic Chinese cuisine in all of Oman.  The tea sommelier will surprise you with his acrobatic pouring skills.

Only setback is the lack of a full spa.  If that is a game changer for your trip, try the Six Senses Zighy Bay on the other side of the country for a small wellness retreat.  Either option, however, will show you the very best Oman has to offer.

The Lodge at Sea Island. Sea Island, Georgia

Known for it’s legendary elegance, Sea Island exceeds all expectations from an “island” hotel. Receiving the prestigious Five-Star award from Forbes, this hideaway hotel will have you coming back again and again. Located on Sea Island, just off southeastern Georgia’s beautiful Atlantic coast and along five miles of private beach, Sea Island has served as an unrivaled Georgia luxury resort vacation destination since 1928.

From a bird’s eye view, Sea Island is an expansive resort with 8 distinctive buildings. The Main building is called The Cloister, and was built in 1928 with Mediterranean-inspired architecture. This renowned architectural icon extends into lush, captivating gardens, while rising boldly at river’s edge. Four dining establishments are housed within The Cloister area, including the renowned Georgian Room, Georgia’s only Forbes Five-star restaurant. The Georgian Room is filled with rich-mahogany arm chairs, shining chandeliers, and food is served on hand-painted china, reminiscent of a 1920’s men-only club.

The Cloister has three luxurious accommodation options. The Lodge is a golfer’s paradise, surrounded by all three of Sea Island’s famed golf courses. The Cloister centralizes the Sea Island resort experience, encompassing beach access, the Cloister Spa, and the full spectrum of resort activities and amenities. Finally, The Cottages are available for year-round rental, giving families and couples the ultimate private escape. My favorite place to stay is in one of the Cloister Ocean Cottages, located along The Cloister’s miles-long private beach. The décor is warm and lavish, featuring rich wood hues, exposed beam ceilings, and exquisite furnishings.

The other buildings on the gapingly-large property are the Sea Island Yacht Club, The Cloister Spa, and The Cloister Beach Club. This icon of Southern hospitality is perfect for the multi-generational travelers. The Cloister at Sea Island is the perfect spot for any travelers looking for both luxury and relaxation.

Have dinner at River House Restaurant, which features traditional cuisine from the Lowcountry and the South.  The casually luxurious ambiance and hospitable staff will make you want to stay forever.

If you’re looking for a bit more of a relaxed, southern comfort style of dinner, head to the Canoe Club – it has amazing views of the May River on one side and the Palmetto Bluff Water Trail on the other, and features local seafood dishes.

So, if you’re craving a new and unique adventure but addicted to the calm feeling of a home, search no further because The Inn at Palmetto Bluff is everyone and anyone’s perfect slice of heaven.

The Joule. Dallas, Texas

A revitalized 1920’s downtown landmark that has been transformed into a five-star hotel, The Joule has always sought and succeeded at perfectly capturing the energy of this vibrant southern city. Since Dallas has recently become a place of inspiration for the world’s leading taste-makers, such as Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel and the Dallas Museum of Art, the expansion of the Joule incorporates many features that truly emphasize Dallas as an emerging cultural scene. For example, the Joule boasts a world class museum-quality art collection with work from artists such as Andy Warhol, Tony Cragg, and Richard Phillips.

After a two year long transformation and expansion that enlarged the hotel by almost an entire city block, the Joule now boasts three penthouse suites, and an additional 29 guest suites. The renovation also includes event spaces, including a rooftop garden terrace with a climate controlled pavilion, 3 new ballrooms, 4 meeting rooms, a visually arresting cantilevered glass rooftop pool (which has some of the wildest summer pool parties),  an expanded lobby and lobby bar styled by TENOVERSIX. Also recently finished is the modern Texan cuisine restaurant CBD Provisions, and the subterranean craft cocktail lounge Midnight Rambler inspired by the 60’s New York hotspot Max’s Kansas City.

For the traveler really looking to splurge, booking one of the three ultra-luxe penthouses at $10,000 a night is definitely the way to go. Two of the penthouses are multi-level with private terraces while the third occupies the entire top floor of the building. Posh Voyage went up there for a photo shoot recently and it was breathtaking. You have your own private terrace overlooking the whole city, it truly is a dream.

For an indulgent experience, guests should be sure to book treatments at the Joule’s 8,000 square foot ESPA Spa- the US flagship location of this internationally renowned luxury spa company. Inside the spa is a co-ed body temp pool, sauna, steam room, and swedish shower. Not to mention yummy food and bubbly champagne can be provided upon request!  It is a true oasis for those looking for an urban escape. Opt for the facial- they use a special aromatherapy procedure to show you what your body is needing.

CBD Provisions has quickly become one of the standouts of Dallas’ culinary scene. The pig’s head carnitas are not to be missed.  They were named Dallas’ ‘most instagrammed’ plate of food as their deliciousness is enhanced by the wow factor of their presentation.

The Joule is a one-of-a-kind spot in a spectacular up and coming city that is very near and dear to the hearts of the Posh Voyage team.
